SZN 2 - HOMEBOY CBD

Homeboy heads to the city! After a successful 12 months in Hahndorf, homeboy has decided to test his business in Adelaide's bustling CBD. Across from Adelaide University 'homeboy' is situated under the Yugo student accomodation building, with Tom's goals to foster a tight knitted community over good coffees and focaccia!

With the help from Renew Adelaide, Tom wishes to turn this cold shell into his dream setup! Slinging takeaway coffees and sandos thoughout the week! You can catch homeboy across social media - documenting this journey, sharing the highs and the lows of what the reality of setting up a coffee shop is really like!

Be sure to stop by sometime and say hi!

SZN 1 - THIELE'S SHOP

Many asked how someone could start a cafe at 18 years old. It’s a good question. It is with the utmost privilege that with the collaboration of ‘Thiele’s Shop’ and ‘The PaintBox’ that SZN 1 of homeboy was possible. Thiele’s Shop is a creative venue that supports young artists and emerging businesses to test themselves on the market in a real brick-and-mortar. The venue holds ‘pop-ups’ to keep the place exciting and ever-changing. With no crazy set-up costs of renovations, installations, or equipment - this already set-up spot is one of the reasons why I could start my own cafe business at 18. It is a collaborative venue that allows more than one business to operate in the same space, often simultaneously, with art classes, florists, bakers, and more. With more businesses operating in the space, they actually subsidise the cost for each other, as agreed upon by the landlord. Make sense? I can solely focus on what’s important for the business - creating amazing products, improving customer experiences, and putting out as much media content as possible! I can afford to take risks and fail, learning from my mistakes and growing in the process, all without exposing myself to great commercial risk.

Given the outstanding response, homeboy wanted to test his business in a brand new and bustling location...
